Environment-Friendly Aqueous Anti-Rust Agent

Now let us introduce you the environment-friendly anti-rust aqueous agent, Water Beetle. No heavy metal and toxic substance like nitrite. The organic film is adsorbed onto substrate and resist against rust. It can be removed clearly by water rinsing for further process without any side-effect on substrate surface. Rust could form on metal substrate or parts without during process or storage rapidly without any treatment. It affects the appearance and performance of iron, moreover, steel parts might be scraped by terrible corrosion. To protect parts from rust before surface finishing process, oil or aqueous anti-rust agent are common to be used for short-tern storage. Compared to oil agent, the aqueous agent could be applied on various metal parts, components, and instruments by rinsing, spraying, and brushing. Furthermore, saving energy, waste, and cost from reduction of degreasing and phosphate in pre-treatment.

The theory of conventional aqueous anti-rust agent is passivation on metal surface by sodium nitrite, potassium dichromate, borate, aluminate, and tungstate. An un-dissolved coating formed onto surface and protect from corrosion. It is cheap and useful for WIP storage probably 20 days. However, a hazy pattern will form on surface due to volatilization of water from liquid coating and toward to failure in corrosion resistance. In addition, conventional aqueous agent is sensitive to acid and alkaline, and toxic to human and environment. Thus a toxic-free and environmental-friendly aqueous anti-rust agent is necessary for restriction of high concern substance.

The “Water Beetle”, MetChem’s aqueous anti-rust agent, an organic film is adsorbed onto and protect metal surface based on its special formula. This dense thin film plays a role as barrier between substrate and corrosion surrounding, and resist against corrosion etching by protective agent. Compared to conventional product, it is toxic-free, incombustible, and environment-friendly. Can be removed by simply acid or alkaline rinsing, suitable to warehousing, transportation, and WIP buffer of metal parts.

To evaluate the corrosion on iron substrate, ASTM D4627 is an effective test method to be used. Put cast iron chips on filter paper, pour water onto chips, leave wet chips for 24 hours and then observe the yellow stain on filter paper for estimating the rust. As immersing chips in 1% MetChem WB-902 solution for 24 hours and started the test, the excellent performance of WB-902 was shown. No any stain formed on paper after 30 days test even spiking water at 24th and 27th days for aggressive condition. Based on the evaluation of ASTM D4627, the protectivity of WB-902 on cast iron chest could be long as 2 months or more. Besides, the tolerance to bake at 120C on treated-parts by 1% WB-902 anti-rust agent could be 30 min at least. The appearance on baked part is same as drying in ambient, no cosmetic issue was found in baking case. Since the higher tolerance with lower temperature of oven, WB-902 satisfy EN process requirement to HDD or automotive industry.
